The E.W. Scripps Company is the new owner of KGTV Channel 10 in San Diego.
This brings an end to the 6-year union-busting campaign launched against employees in 2006 by McGraw-Hill Broadcasting.
Since Channel 10 signed-on in 1953 with NABET-CWA as its partner, this has been the only major contract dispute and no group has been more invested in KGTV's success than its represented employees.
The guiding philosophy: What is good for the station is good for the employees and what is good for the employees is good for the station. This philosophy allowed the employees to grow and change as the business changed and we're proud of that.
We may never really know why McGraw-Hill jeopardized KGTV's success, causing the ratings and advertising revenue to slide. But we do know this: It hasn't been good for employees, shareholders, advertisers or the community.
Scripps owns successful, top-rated stations in markets across the country. They are involved in the communities they serve.
Up until 2006, KGTV was consistently a top-rated and profitable station in the San Diego market.
NABET-CWA looks forward to working with Scripps to rebuild the brand and return KGTV to its former success and profitability.
